The cheeses of Mons are an excellent example of the many fine products to be found in the Côte Roannaise region.

In 1964 Hubert Mons, originally from the Auvergne, decided to sell cheeses in the markets with his wife. Later Hervé, who received a Meilleur Ouvrier de France designation in 2000, joined the business, along with Laurent, with the result being a continual development of the firm.

Today there are 22 workers in the caves, 155 French clients, 19 export countries, 130 producers supplying cheeses, four stores in France and about 190 different cheeses being ripened at any given time.

There should be no surprise that cheese ripening remains at the heart of the firm’s activities. In 2009 La Compagnie d’Affinage des Caves de la Collonge converted an old railway tunnel into a remarkable space for ripening, located nearby in Ambierle.

Mons cheeses can be found on the best tables of the world. And they can be purchased in the Halles de Renaison, an obligatory stop before or after a visit to our tasting room.
